2/2009
dark clouds ring the rising sun
small patches of light emerging
to illuminate the small patches
that remind me there is ocean out there
alongside cliffs that look as though
Ireland has come to California
if this area was unsettled
it would look like those
sweeping documentary panoramas
that show majestic cliffsides
and I chose the place to sit
very carefully, so as to block
the signs of civilization from my view
so that I
can soak in the sunset
as light refracts across the open sky
the clouds are a mirror
of orange sherbet colors
full moon hanging low underneath
cotton candy colored clouds
Catalina looks close enough to swim to from here
and at low tide i might be able to make
the twenty-six miles
with ease
